Athletics

A number of athletic teams are undertaken at David Thomas King which are a part of our Extracurricular activities.  Students are encouraged to participate and join in on the fun! 

Division II Intramurals are an opportunity for Grades 4, 5, and 6 students to promote school culture, team spirit, and a love of sports in all DTK students.  

  • Intramurals are ongoing throughout the year: 
    • Karbonik Cup - Floor Hockey in November & December
    • March Madness - Basketball in February & March
    • DTK Cup - Soccer in May & June
  • Games are scheduled at lunch throughout the tournaments

 

Elementary Cross-Country is open to students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 who enjoy running, fresh air, keeping fit, and hope to improve their running ability are welcome to attend. It's also open to all members to foster a community and team that support one another in our individual pursuits. Students meet twice a week to run at school over the lunch hour and have the option to participate in Harriers Races typically scheduled in September and October.

 

Junior High Sports

Junior High league sports are great opportunities for students to develop specific skills and knowledge, while also improving coordination and fine motor skills. Students will also learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship, while engaging in healthy competition. Throughout seasons, students will have opportunities to compete against other schools in regular league play and tournaments. At DTK, we offer teams for:

  • Running
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Badminton 
  • Flag football
  • Track and field

And we are always looking for additional opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular team sports!

 

Junior High Pom - Performance Cheer

Junior High Pom is a team for students in grades 6-9. Performance cheer focuses on sharp and precise pom motion techniques while incorporating elements from Jazz and Hip Hop. Students will work as a team to synchronize movements, maintain uniformity, and manage spacing. Team members will learn dynamic choreography that emphasizes musicality and visual effects through smooth transitions and group formations. Joining the pom program is a great way to build teamwork skills, improve physical fitness, and express creativity through dancePom is a commitment from September to April with a competition season January-April. The dancers learn one choreographed routine and practice once a week at the start of the year, twice a week closer to competitions. Competitions take place throughout Edmonton and surrounding area and typically take place over a weekend (Friday-Sunday).
